Platelet Rich Growth Factor
Plasma Rich in Growth Factors, or as it is commonly referred to, PRGF or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), is a process that helps speed up your healing following certain dental procedures that you may have. Such procedures that PRF would be recommended for are as follows.
- Direct Sinus Lifts
- Gingival Grafting
- Multiple Implants
- Ridge Augmentation/Bone Grafting
PRGF is a plasma rich protein (PRP) that is captured by fractioning your blood into its respective component parts. While your body is healing, it will release a variety of proteins in the blood that are called growth factors (GF). These proteins are designed to help facilitate healing by encouraging your body to reproduce the exact number of cells that are needed to repair and heal the area that requires treatment. Growth factors also regulate interactions between cells to make sure the healing process takes place in the appropriate order.
Following most periodontal procedures, it generally takes a few weeks or even months for a patient to be fully healed. During this healing process, your body is working to restore blood vessels, tissue, and bone to the area where surgery took place. If your periodontist is working to rebuild particularly large areas of missing bone or tissue, PRFG will help assist the body and its ability to regenerate and replace the missing tissue quicker.
